Escondido Toddler Run Over by Truck, Dies

Police are investigating how the child got under the wheels of the truck

A two-year-old boy from Escondido died after being hit by a commercial truck in Moreno Valley.

The truck struck the toddler on Fir Avenue on September 12.

Moreno Valley police were immediately contacted but, once arrived, pronounced the child dead at the scene.

The coroner’s report shows the child was hit around 10:18 a.m. and died within ten minutes.

The truck driver was not injured, and police don’t believe alcohol or drugs were involved.

The mother was reportedly seen racing under the crime scene tape and joining other family members while “screaming in horror,” according to a community Facebook page for the area.

A volunteer chaplain with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department arrived shortly after to help console the family, the Facebook page also said, citing Riverside County News Source.

Officials later identified the toddler as Nazarey Flores Arizmendi.

Nazarey’s family is from Escondido but was currently living in Moreno Valley.

The family has created a GoFundMe page to raise money for funeral expenses. The campaign said, “We love you baby and you will always be in our hearts.”

Moreno Valley police are still investigating how Nazarey got under the wheels of the truck.
