A toddler reported missing from Escondido was spotted by a passerby and reunited with his mother Monday.

The child's parents told police they left their 2-year-old with the mother's cousin -- Donnell Terrall Haynes -- who they trusted as a babysitter, according to Escondido Police spokesperson Neal Griffin.

However, the parents say at some point Monday evening, Haynes left the house after an argument and took the child.

Griffin says Haynes, 35, has a felony warrant out for his arrest.

The two were last seen heading westbound in the flood control channel from Rose Street around 6 p.m.

Then, just after midnight, someone called Escondido police and reported seeing Haynes and the child near Lincoln Avenue and Fig Street.

The child was reunited with his mother and the caregiver was arrested for the warrant, police said.
