Escondido Fire Briefly Threatened Homes

A brush fire near Harmony Grove in Escondido briefly threatened homes and forced some residents to evacuate, according to the Escondido Police Department (EPD).

The fire started around 12:20 p.m. in the 1800 block of Country Club Drive, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department (SDSO).

Country Club Drive was closed in both directions between Harmony Grove and Kauana Loa for several hours. The street was reopened around 4:45 p.m.

The EDP was assisting the SDSO sheriff's deputies in evacuating some residents. All evacuations have been lifted, the SDSO said.

The fire burned nearly four acres, Cal Fire San Diego said.

The forward progress of the fire has been stopped and fire crews will remain on the scene to put out any hot spots, the agency said.
