Encinitas Marijuana Measure May Miss Deadline

Encinitas voters will get a chance to lift a city ban on medical marijuana dispensaries -- but it may take a year or two.

Our media partners the North County Times says San Diego County officials certified Wednesday that enough signatures were collected to place a pot clinic initiative on the ballot.

However, the deadline to submit items for November's general election is Friday and the measure still needs approval from the City Council, which won't meet for another week. That means the initiative probably will wait until the 2014 election.

The same initiative -- sponsored by a group called the Patient Care Association -- will appear on ballots in Lemon Grove, Del Mar and Solana Beach. The group continues signature-collecting efforts in La Mesa.
