El Cajon Salvation Army Needs Help Filling Empty Shelves

The branch's annual food drive did poorly and only collected enough food for one month.

The Salvation Army branch in El Cajon is asking the community for help filling its empty shelves.

Every year the branch holds a food drive that usually stocks the pantry with nonperishables to last a full year, but this year’s drive only brought in enough to last a month.

Salvation Army spokesperson Rachael Fowler said the branch is desperate to fill its shelves right now and doesn’t want people to go hungry. If it can’t collect enough canned or boxed food it will have to spend its reserve of monetary donations to purchase food, which will hamper its ability to provide other assistance in the community.

Anyone who wishes to donate food to the El Cajon branch can drop it off at 1011 East Main Street. For more information, call (619) 440-4683.
