El Cajon PD Looking for Senior Volunteers

The El Cajon Police Department is seeking volunteers for its Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol (RSVP) Program.

The department is looking for people 50 years or older who want to give back and help make the community safer.

Some of RSVP’s responsibilities include enforcing handicapped parking regulations, traffic control, patrolling business districts and school zones and representing the department at special events.

"The men and women of the RSVP program have proven to be an invaluable resource for us here in the department and in the community they serve,” El Cajon Police Chief Jim Redman said of the program.

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, complete a background investigation, possess a California driver’s license and be in relatively good shape.

People who meet the requirements and are interested in joining should contact the Police Department’s Volunteer Coordinator at (619) 579-3354, or by email, at rsvp@cityofelcajon.us.

Participation in the program is a one-year commitment that includes at least one six-hour shift per week, attendance at monthly training meetings and participation in a one-week academy.
