A small group of concerned citizens met Saturday to discuss new ways to fund the annual U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition in Imperial beach.
The competition has been held for more than 28 years, but is now in search of a new headline sponsor. Last year's headline sponsor declined to participate for this year's event, which is scheduled to be held the weekend of July 18.
The U.S. Open Sandcastle Competition Volunteer Committee discussed ways to raise the $50,000 shortfall for the annual event.
