Driver's Foot Severed in Dump Truck Crash

The truck was traveling south on Via Ambiente in Rancho Santa Fe near the San Dieguito Reservoir

The driver of an out-of-control dump truck lost his foot when he tried to jump out of the vehicle before it crashed, officials told NBC 7.

The truck was traveling south on Via Ambiente in Rancho Santa Fe near the San Dieguito Reservoir around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday.

CHP officers said the driver jumped out as the truck careened out of control. The 38-year-old man was run over by the truck.

His right foot was severed in the crash, officials said.

The truck then sideswiped another vehicle and crashed down an embankment.

The driver was transported to Palomar Medical Center, CHP said.

No other injuries were reported.
