A male driver suffered an apparent fatal heart attack Thursday morning before losing control of his vehicle and injuring a married couple in Otay Mesa, officials said.
The man, 56, was transported to a Chula Vista hospital after losing control of his Jeep Cherokee shortly before 9:30 a.m. at 7247 Otay Mesa Rd.
He was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival, said Nick Schuler, Cal Fire Battalion chief.
The Jeep struck a metal barricade, alongside which the pedestrians were either walking or standing, Schuler said.
The couple suffered moderate injuries and were transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, Schuler said.
