Driver Arrested in Pacific Beach Pursuit

A suspected drunk driver was arrested after leading police on a high speed pursuit in Pacific Beach and slamming into a tree.

It all began just after 1 a.m. Thursday near Mission Boulevard and Diamond Street. Officers tried to pull the driver over and began the pursuit heading east for several minutes.

SDPD Lt. Mark Bennett said the driver was acting dangerously, running through several intersections at high speed.

โ€œHe was actually reckless driving before the officers even tried to pull him over. He was driving, doing donuts in the middle of the street,โ€ said Bennett.

The lieutenant said at one point the suspectโ€™s car became airborne and crashed into a tree, ending the pursuit on Emerald Street.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital, but is expected to be okay.

Bennett said the driver was approximately 30 years old and believed to have been driving his parentsโ€™ car.
