Dozens ‘Paddle-Out' to Honor Former Navy SEAL

Dozens of people gathered at Swami’s in Encinitas Saturday morning for a special surf session dedicated to a former Navy SEAL who was killed in Libya last month.

The “paddle out” for Glen Doherty, who was working a security detail during last month’s deadly attack at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, began at 10 a.m.

Doherty’s friends and family hit the water in honor of the beloved American hero.

On Friday night, loved ones held a festive block party for Doherty in Encinitas where they shared stories about him and celebrated his happy, heroic life.

Doherty’s loved ones are hoping to get the word out about the Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the memory of Doherty and all those who defend our nation.
