An investigation has been launched into the death of a seven-month-old pit bull who was shot by a San Diego County Sheriff’s deputy at a home in San Marcos on Monday morning.
According to Sheriff’s officials, at about 11:00 a.m. deputies responded to a call in the 2700 block of Sarver Lane about three aggressive pit bulls who were roaming in the area earlier in the day.
Once on the scene, the deputies entered the property of the dog’s owner in an attempt to discuss the complaints, said Sgt. Earnell Sease.
As the deputies made contact, Sease said three pit bulls emerged from inside the home through an open patio door, charging at the deputies.
According to Sease, one of the deputies feared for his safety and fired two rounds into one of the dogs, killing it.
The other two dogs went back inside of the home after the shots were fired.
The dog’s owner, who spoke to NBC San Diego, said that her dogs weren’t roaming, and were sleeping next to her at the time they were supposedly out.

Sgt. Sease said an investigation into the shooting is ongoing and will be handled by the Sheriff’s San Marcos station.
