SD Prosecutor Commits Suicide at Traffic Stop

Police said the death of a deputy district attorney was a suicide

Authorities say a veteran San Diego prosecutor committed suicide after being pulled over by police in Oceanside.

A statement from the Oceanside Police Department says 51-year-old Christine Trevino shot herself Thursday while an officer was speaking with her through her vehicle's window.

The statement Friday says police located Trevino by tracking her cell phone, after being alerted that she had threatened to kill herself and drove away from her Escondido home.

She handled drug and gang cases during a 21-year career at the San Diego County district attorney's office. The agency issued a statement calling her "a dedicated prosecutor."

Oceanside police Lt. Leonard Mata says there is no evidence the suicide was related to any case she has been involved with.
