Man Arrested in SWAT Standoff

The location is north of Interstate 8 near Waring Road

U.S. Marshals were involved in a SWAT situation in Del Cerro Monday.

Officials went to the Days Inn hotel to serve a felony parole violation warrant just before noon.  After U.S. Marshals made contact, they thought a shot was fired.

The SWAT team responded to a Days Inn on Adobe Falls Road, north of Interstate 8 near the Waring Road exit.

More than 30 police vehicles were at the scene while negotiators talked with the suspect. He eventually surrendered.

Cleophus Edwards was in a room at the hotel when he was asked to leave by officials.

"Police told me there's a man with heavy weapons in the room behind me so I had to go," he said.

Both the SWAT team and Marshals cleared out around 1 p.m.

Two people were arrested following the standoff and a woman with him was detained for questioning to see if she was involved in the crime.

A man, Cecil Wiley, arrested for violating parole.

"He has a history of fighting and weapons so we treat him as armed and dangerous," Deputy U.S marshal Steve Jurman said.

Jurman said he had stopped reporting for parole and that were concerned given his history.
