2 Dead, 1 Critically Injured in Fatal Shooting

Three victims were shot in City Heights Saturday night

Police are investigating a fatal shooting in the Swan Canyon neighborhood of City Heights that left two victims dead and one in critical condition Saturday night.

According to police, the multiple-victim shooting happened just before 11 p.m. on the 2600 block of 44th Street and Highland Avenue.

Investigators said the victims were standing outside an apartment on 44th Street when three black males approached them on foot. The suspects allegedly fired multiple rounds at the victims before fleeing in a silver vehicle westbound on Maple Street.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered two shooting victims on 44th Street and a third victim in a nearby alley.

All three victims were transported to local trauma centers, but two of them did not survive.

Police said 18-year-old Rickquese McCoy died at 11:36 p.m., while 34-year-old shooting victim Stephen McClendon died at 11:52 p.m.

The third victim underwent surgery and as of Sunday morning is hospitalized in critical condition, according to investigators.

Homicide Unit detectives are investigating the motive behind the shooting which, at this point, remains unknown.
