A “dangerous” Donovan State Prison inmate who escaped while headed to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest has been caught, Lt. Michael Stout said.

Barrett Justice Fadden, 32, escaped from Correctional officers at 8:15 a.m. after he slipped out of a leg restraint, according to Lt. Stout.

When officers opened the vehicle door on hospital grounds, Fadden pushed passed the officers and fled, he said.

The prisoner, who deputies’ said was “considered dangerous," ran behind the hospital into a canyon area.

Officers captured the suspect about 45 minutes after his escape. There were no injuries. The inmate has been returned to the prison.

Fadden is in prison for carjacking. He'll now face new charges for the escape.
