Friday 12:00 p.m. - After a month-long investigation, Mauricio Lopez, 33, was arrested in Lemon Grove for allegedly beating his 5-month old son in October. The infant suffered a total of 34 fractured bones, including breaks to his legs, arms, ribs, and back. Lopez’ wife took the child to a hospital after the abuse, and hospital staff then notified Child Welfare Services and the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.
Friday- There have been 3 recent reports of vehicle repair scam in Oceanside. According to police, suspects told elderly drivers that their cars were smoking or on fire while stopped at stoplights. The suspects then looked under the cars’ hoods and convinced the victims that they could fix the car for anywhere between $1,000 and $4,000. The suspects were described as a white or Hispanic male with dark, collar length hair, and a Hispanic woman in her 20’s. They were seen driving 3 different cars: a newer tan Chevrolet station wagon, a small black car, and a white, full-sized pickup truck. Friday 1:44 a.m. - A police chase ended with the suspect's car crashing into a parked car at 25th and K streets. According to SDPD officers, the suspect jumped out with a backpack, dropped a handgun, picked up the handgun and ran into an alley. Officers say they found him in the alley with the handgun in his lap. He was booked on multiple charges.
Thursday 11:03 p.m. - A man died when he lost control of his car on Genesee Avenue near Boyd Avenue. He crashed his 1997 Saab into a light pole and was killed on impact. SDPD is investigating the cause of the crash.
Thursday -- SDPD is looking for two suspects they say stole a 76-year-old man's personal information and went shopping at a La Mesa Walmart and IKEA. They bought a 50” HDTV, an e-Machines desktop computer, a ring and some clothing. The first suspect is a male, 5’8” – 5’10”, medium build, in his early 30s. He has short-cropped hair (on the sides) with a bleached, blonde mohawk.
