Coworkers Say Driver in Head-On Emerald Hills Crash Was Drinking

A man suspected of driving under the influence broke his leg in a head-on crash Friday evening in Emerald Hills.

The crash happened at around 5:45 p.m. on the 5500 block of Market Street when the suspected DUI driver in a red Toyota traveling westbound veered into eastbound lanes and struck a white Lexus, SDPD said.

The driver of the Toyota was transported to Mercy Hospital with a fractured leg, according to police.

A witness to the crash who did not want to be identified said co-workers of the injured driver were following behind in another car. They told the witness that they had been drinking prior to the crash.

They said they tried to prevent the man from driving but couldn't stop him.

No passengers in the Lexus were reported injured.
