Fire crews say they have gotten the upper hand on a brush fire burning near the community of Pala.
The fire is 75-percent contained and has stopped at 25 acres, according to Cal Fire officials. No structures were burned. With the humidity rising due to nightfall, no additional spread of the fire is expected. Fire crews will stay on the scene taking care of any hot spots.
The blaze started around 2:30 p.m. off Highway 76 and Couser Canyon Road. It is being called the Couser fire. The CHP issued a sig alert between Highway-76 and Interstate-15 due to people driving to the fire to get a better look.
About 200 firefighters battled the blaze with 10 engines, 4 fire crews, 1 bulldozer, 3 air tankers, and 2 helicopters.
Air tankers dropped retardant around three quarters of the fire and the fire is holding within that retardant line. Helicopters worked hot spots on the other quarter of the fire.
