Crews Break Gas Line in La Jolla

Construction crews working on a road in La Jolla broke a natural gas line Thursday.

SDG&E was called to the scene in the 4300 block of La Jolla Village Drive at about noon Thursday, according to the San Diego Fire Department.

The gas leak was located near the University Town Center mall. Seven stores were evacuated due to the loss of electrical power, but none were closed due to the gas leak.

The entrance to the mall near Archlight Cinemas was blocked off until the gas turned off.

The rest of the mall was open for business.

Crews secured the gas leak at about 2:45 p.m.
