A City Councilman from Chula Vista who is a lieutenant in the Navy reserves will deploy to Iraq for a year.
Councilman John McCann said Monday he will leave next month. The South Bay resident will resume his role on the council upon his return to Chula Vista. He said that an interim appointment will likely be made until his return.
The 41-year-old will serve with an Army unit as part of the Navy's efforts to help ground troops.
