Could It Become The Del Mar/Solana Beach Fairgrounds?

Solana Beach wants to enter into a partnership with Del Mar to buy the fairgrounds.

Solana Beach may be teaming up with the city of Del Mar to try and buy the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

While most folks will be home preparing their Thanksgiving feast, the Solana Beach City Council has called a special meeting for Thanksgiving eve, where it could approve a partnership proposal.

You may recall Del Mar reached a deal with the Governor's Office to buy the state-owned 350-plus acre fairgrounds for $120 million.

The state has been trying to raise money  by selling off lucrative property. Critics say the fairgrounds are worth up to $700 million.

Details of Solana Beach's partnership offer have yet to be released,  but the City Attorney says it would address 'sharing expenses, acquisition of the property, and the benefits of working together'.

The City of Del Mar wants to buy the fairgrounds to preserve the wetlands and keep it from being sold to developers who have proposed a major expansion including a hotel on site.
