Coronado Launches Veterans Local Government Management Fellowship

“I and many of my colleagues are always on the lookout for talented, educated, skilled people with the disposition of service,” says Coronado City Manager Blair King.

The city of Coronado just launched a new program called the “Veterans Local Government Management Fellowship.”

The goal of the program is to help service members transitioning out of their military careers get hands-on experience in what it’s like to help run a city.

Allen Broughton, former chief of staff for the Marine Corps Base at Quantico and Marine Installation Command in Washington, D.C., will be the first to take part in the six-month program.

“Hopefully over the six months we will expose Allen to all of that, and as he comes out he really has a leg up in pursuing his second career in local government,” King adds.

The program originated in Colorado and is sponsored by the International City/County Management Association.
