Cops: Couple Left Disabled Man in Van Outside Casino

84-year-old suffers from Parkinson's disease

The caretaker of an 84-year-old man suffering from Parkinson's disease was charged with leaving him in a van while she and her husband gambled at a San Diego casino.

Tessie Magan and her husband, Donnie Magan, were charged with one count each of elder abuse. They pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Vista Superior Court.

A security guard at the Valley View Casino spotted the elderly man, who was unresponsive, inside the vehicle Saturday and called authorities, according to San Diego County prosecutors. Firefighters had to smash a window to rescue him. He was taken to a hospital, where he was kept overnight before being released. Prosecutors say he had been inside the van for about 90 minutes in the late afternoon.

Tessie Magan is being held on $50,000 bail. Her husband was released on his own recognizance.
