Cops: Marine Opened Fire on CHP Officers

A 19-year-old Marine has been arrested for investigation of attempted murder for allegedly shooting at two California Highway Patrol officers in El Cajon.

Officers said they tried to pull over 23-year-old Charles Neal on suspicion of drunken driving early Sunday, but he sped away.

19-year-old Pvt. Edward Michael Forney, who was in the passenger seat, fired shots at officers and officers returned fire, according to El Cajon police. The car was found abandoned blocks away.

Pvt. Edward Michael Forney was detained at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station Monday and booked into jail in San Diego Tuesday, Police said.

Neal remains at large.
