Police have released a sketch of a man they say tried to kidnap a 14-year-old girl who was walking home from school in Encanto
The man approached the girl Monday at about 4 p.m. in the 6300 block of Brooklyn Avenue and asked her for directions to a local park, according to police.
“After giving him directions he moved to the passenger side of the van and grabbed the victim's arm and tried to get her into the van,” police spokesperson Mónica Muñoz said. “The girl was able to get away from the suspect; she ran home and called police.”
The victim provided police a detailed description of the suspect and the suspect vehicle, which is a 1980-90 dark blue, Ford Aerostar van. The van is dark blue except for the passenger side sliding door, which is light blue, police said. The steering wheel is black, the interior is beige and the front seats were described as captain's chairs. The front grill is missing.
