Cops Found Clues After Hospital Manhunt

About 290 patients were inside UCSD medical center during a manhunt after a burglary suspect ran into the hospital trying to get away from police.

Officers searched the hospital for hours, room by room, hoping to find the suspect. The search was called off at the hospital at 2 pm., but police were still looking for the suspect in surrounding neighborhoods.

Officials say the patients were not in any danger.

"We did a thorough search, room by room, checked every single area that we could check. We are confident that the rooms are cleared out," UCSD Medical Center Security Manager Mike Leach said.

Police got a call about 12:30 about a man in his 30's who was trying to break into a home in Hillcrest. The suspect had already burglarized three other homes earlier in the day, the last home was his fourth target, police said.

When police arrived the suspect ran into the main hospital entrance, then the cafeteria, after that, officials lost track of him.

Police do have some leads in this case. "I'm hearing over the radio that we have some good evidence in the last burglary which we will submit to our lab for analysis,"  San Diego spokesperson Walt Vasquez said. The evidence includes tools the suspect used to break into the last home.

"The hospital does have security cameras. We haven't had the opportunity to look at those, but we will again partner with hospital officials and review those cameras," Vasquez said.
