Cop Shoots, Kills Knife Wielding Man

The incident is being investigated as a "suicide by cop."

A San Diego police officer shot and killed a man who approached an officer with a knife raised above his head, police said.

Three officers arrived at David V. Vongpramai’s Linda Vista home on Westinghouse Street Wednesday night after police received a call from someone who said he had a knife and a gun and wanted to kill himself, acting homicide Capt. Jorge Duran said.

Officers ordered the 32-year-old to drop his knife. He ran from the back of his house to the front of his house and then back around again. They followed him for about 10 to 15 feet, telling him to drop the knife and said that's when he made a move that forced them to open fire.

Vongpramai died at the scene. Duran said the incident is being investigated as a "suicide by cop."

The officer that fired on the man has been with the San Diego Police Department for four years.
