Companies Seek Military Vets

Career fair in Liberty Station offers job opportunities to veterans

Military veterans seeking employment can attend a free career fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the Corky McMillin Companies Event Center in Liberty Station on 2875 Dewey Rd.

The career fair comes at a time when unemployment rates for young veterans are particularly high. A study performed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed that male veterans younger than 24 had an unemployment rate of nearly 22 percent in 2010. Nearly 9 percent of all veterans are unemployed, according to the study.

Home Depot, RecruitMilitary and other employers are looking to fill several spots within their companies at the event, Home Depot spokeswoman Sheryll Campbell said.

The career fair goal is to provide a variety of job opportunities for people with a military background.
