Coast Guard Seeing Green

With a little help from the Mexican Navy, the U.S. Coast Guard recovered more than 8 tons of marijuana from a smuggling boat off the coast of Baja California last Thursday.

A Coast Guard aircraft spotted a suspicious vessel 60 miles west of Isla Cedros. The Coast Guard cutter Aspen was sent to investigate. Officials said that when it arrived in the area, the four smugglers abard tried to flee, throwing bails of pot overboard.

More than 16,500 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated street value of $15 million, was confiscated

The marijuana was taken back to San Diego, where it was handed over to Marine Task Force personnel.
