A field hockey coach is behind bars after being accused of engaging in sexual activity with one of his players.
Jose Carillo, 49, was arrested Wednesday by Chula Vista police.
Carrillo is a volunteer coach at Bonita Vista High School, as well as an hourly coach at the Jackie Robinson YMCA in San Diego, officials said. According to Chula Vista police, officers earlier this week began investigating allegations of sexual contact between the high school student and Carrillo, her field hockey coach.
Detectives determined during their investigation that Carrillo, a San Diego resident, and the juvenile teen had participated in acts of a sexual nature during the course of several months, Chula Vista police said in a statement issued on Thursday afternoon.
Carrillo, who was arrested without incident during a field hockey event in Chula Vista, is being held on $270,000 bail. He is due in South Bay Court at 1 p.m. on Friday.
