City Shuts Down Massage Parlor

Officials say clinics given permits by mistake

An Oceanside massage parlor found to be inappropriate for the neighborhood has effectively been shut down by the City Council.

The North County Times reported that the council voted unanimously to shutter Ocean Clinic, which opened nearly three years ago in the Town and Country shopping center, near Interstate 5.

According to the report, city staffers told the council Wednesday that they mistakenly gave the owner, Yao Yu Wang, a business license in early 2006, when she should have been required to get a special permit.  The council refused.

Wang told the council she provided acupuncture and holistic therapy but the report said Councilman Jerry Kern was troubled by police activity there, including a prostitution-related arrest in 2006.

"We don't want this business anywhere in the city," Councilman Jack Feller said. "I'm disgusted that we gave them a business license somehow in this process."
