Suspect Struck in Officer-Involved Shooting

The suspect fired several rounds at the officer

A Chula Vista police officer was involved in a shootout with multiple rounds fired early Monday officials said.

A man walked into the CVS pharmacy on Third Avenue around 1:30 a.m. and pulled a gun on the pharmacist according to police.

The suspect stole money in the robbery and snatched a man's car keys officials said.

After the pharmacist called 911, a Chula Vista police officer spotted the spotted the suspect right outside the store.

Investigators say the suspect turned around with a gun pointed at the officer and then proceeded to fire several rounds at the officer. 

The officer then fired several rounds at the suspect, shooting him in near the knee.

β€œThe suspect shot at the officer several times. The officer returned fire striking the suspect we believe at least once,” said Capt. Gary Wedge with Chula Vista police.

The police officer was not injured.

The area of Fourth Avenue and C Street in Chula Vista was closed until approximately 11:30 a.m. due to police activity.
