Police, Sycuan Give 800 Kids New Shoes

The 2nd Annual Shoe and Sock Giveaway benefitting local children was held Sunday in Chula Vista

The Chula Vista Police Foundation and Sycuan partnered up on Sunday to give 800 underprivileged children new shoes for the upcoming school year.

The 2nd Annual Shoe and Sock Giveaway was held from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Payless Shoe store in the Chula Vista Shopping Center at 555 Broadway and H Street.

During the back-to-school event, 800 local children were given new shoes and socks compliments of the Chula Vista Police Foundation, Sycuan and other donors.

The giveaway was intended to help as many children as possible by giving them fresh shoes to start the school year. The Chula Vista Police Foundation said students with tattered or damaged footwear could be teased or subjected to bullying, impacting their self-esteem.

With new shoes and socks, kids can focus on their studies and fit in with their peers.
