Child Shot in Head with Arrow

A 9-year-old was shot in the head with an arrow by his twin brother, deputies said.

A television helicopter hovering above the residence on San Pasqual Road Friday showed firefighters working on a boy while a man held the child's head. Firefighters taped the child's head and placed him on a stretcher.

“The deputy learned that the 9 year old, who had been shot with the arrow, had previously told his brother to shoot an arrow at him so he could catch it. He missed catching the arrow and was subsequently struck in the head, right above the eye,” Sgt. Mark Moreno said.

The arrow penetrated 10 cm into the boy’s skull, deputies said.

Once the child was placed inside the ambulance, another boy and the man entered the ambulance and sat with him while they waited for the medical helicopter to arrive.

Mercy air landed in a nearby baseball field. The child was transported to Children’s Hospital.
