Child Found Unconscious in North County Pool Dies

A 5-year-old boy who died after drowning in a swimming pool at an apartment complex on Monday has now been identified by the county medical examiner’s office.

According to a report released by the ME, little Sebastian Knapp was found floating in a swimming pool at the Jefferson at Carmel Mountain Ranch complex at around 7:30 p.m.

The boy had been visiting friends at the complex at 11858 Stoney Peak Drive at the time of the fatal incident, the report said.

It is still unclear how Knapp wound up in the swimming pool alone, but bystanders found the boy floating in the water and began giving him CPR.

Paramedics were called to the pool, and Knapp was transported to Pomerado Hospital and then transferred to Rady Children’s Hospital.

The boy was given a poor prognosis and pronounced dead early Tuesday morning.

Knapp had turned 5 this past April.

Residents at the complex said they were very shaken up by the incident.

The drowning is under investigation.
