Chargers Welcome Back Guard, Waive Two Others

The San Diego Chargers added a returning name to their roster Tuesday: guard Michael Huey.

The move comes as the team decided to waive center Jeff Baca and nose tackle Chas Alecxih.

Huey began his NFL career as an undrafted free agent with the Seattle Seahawks in 2011.

He came from the University of Texas, where he started 20 games as both right and left guard, the Chargers say. He played 47 career games over four years for the Longhorns.

When Huey was released by the Seahawks, the Chargers picked him up less than a week later. However, the team waived him as training camp ended, sending him to the Arizona Rattlers in the Arena League.

There, the 6-foot-4-inch, 317-pound player helped earn the team three consecutive Arena Bowl titles, and Huey earned All-Arena honors, according to the Chargers.

He also spent some time on the Washington Redskins’ practice squad in November 2014 but was released the next month.
