With the 25th pick of the 2014 NFL draft, the San Diego Chargers have chosen Jason Verrett, a cornerback from TCU.
The last time the Chargers selected a player from Texas Christian University in the first round of the NFL Draft, they ended up with LaDainian Tomlinson, one of the greatest offensive players in NFL history.
He plays a different position, but Jason Verrett knows all about LT.
"He's a legend at TCU," said Verrett after being drafted 25th overall by the Chargers.
Verrett is a defensive back who will immediately compete for a starting spot in San Diego. This was one of those situations where a player ranked high on the Chargers' board just happens to be at a position of need.
"We’re really, really pleased to get Jason," said Chargers General Manager Tom Telesco. "We talked about going into the offseason wanting to get faster, more playmakers and really wanting to help the defense a little bit and Jason embodies all of that. He’s tough and he plays big. He plays in a good conference against a lot of really good receivers. We couldn’t be happier to have him with the Chargers.”

The Chargers had the NFL's 29-ranked pass defense in 2013. Verrett was one of the best pure cover cornerbacks in this year's class, despite being just 5'9" tall. The Bolts think his toughness help Verrett overcome any height restrictions.
"Size doesn't matter to him," said Chargers head coach Mike McCoy. "He flies around and makes plays."
The Chargers are scheduled to make two more picks on Friday, in rounds 2 and 3.
