Chargers Hold On To Flowers

Cornerback agrees to new contract in San Diego

Of all the Chargers free agents, and when the season ended there were 17 of them, three were the clear-cut, top priority to try and hold on to: Left tackle King Dunlap, defensive back Brandon Flowers, and wide receiver Eddie Royal.

Dunlap re-signed for 4 years. Flowers is going to be here with him.

Brandon and the Bolts have agreed to a new 4-year contract. The Pro Bowler came to San Diego on a one-year deal last June after he was released by the Chiefs. It didn't take him long to make an impact.

Here's your proof: In 2013 San Diego allowed the 4th-most passing yards in the NFL. Last year, with the additions of Flowers and Jason Verrett, the Chargers allowed the 4th-fewest passing yards in the league.

The Chargers now turn their attention to Royal and a few players from other teams. They've made an offer to Broncos offensive lineman Orlando Franklin, one of the top linemen available. The 6'7", 320-pounder has played right tackle and left guard successfully in Denver.

It's unknown which position the Chargers would see him taking, but the prospect of putting him at guard next to Dunlap, who's 6'9" and 331 pounds, is awfully intriguing.
