Chargers Claim Tight End Off Waivers

The San Diego Chargers snapped up tight end Kyle Miller off the waivers from Atlanta, the team announced Tuesday.

Miller, a 6-foot-5, 252-pound player, originally signed on with Jacksonville as an undrafted free agent, the team says, but was waived at the end of the 2011 training camp.

Indianapolis claimed Miller in 2012, and he spent nine weeks on the Colts’ practice squad. He made his first NFL appearance on Nov. 18 in a game against New England. The next day, he was again waived.

The Miami Dolphins were the next to claim him, but he was inactive for their final seven games. He spent the next season on their practice squad, and in 2014, he went to Atlanta’s.

Miller played for Mount Union College before his NFL career. He is from Bowling Green, Ohio.

On Tuesday, the Chargers also announced that they had waived defensive tackle Damik Scafe, who spent the 2014 season on “reserve injured” with a hip injury. The Chargers initially took on Scafe in 2011 as an undrafted rookie from Boston College.

He has appeared in two games and helped out the Bolts’ practice squad over the last four seasons.
