Ron Dixon has been firing the cannon at Qualcomm Stadium for 36 years. He’s only missed two games.
When the San Diego Chargers come out of the tunnel and you hear that boom, it’s all thanks to the local resident who’s been with the team longer than many fans have been alive.
“I’ve made hundreds of fans at the stadium,” he said.
On Tuesday, Jan. 12 was declared “Ron Cannon Man Dixon Day” by proclamation by the City of San Diego.
It was a heartwarming tribute for Dixon, who said he has many fond memories from the Q.
Perhaps one of his favorite memories was a bittersweet one: The Chargers last home game with the Miama Dolphins last month.
He was overwhelmed by both the fan and players’ emotions on the field.

“The fan reaction was just unbelievable,” he said.
Asked his take on the Bolts’ potential move, Dixon said it was “completely out of my hands,” though he hopes there would be another San Diego team one day.
Dixon has other endeavors in the community – he also operates San Diego’s KJB Sky Show as well as the halftime fireworks show for the Holiday Bowl.
