Chargers Add Two New Pieces

A Pair Of Veterans Sign Before Training Camp

On Monday (just three days at the time this is written), the Chargers hold their first workouts of Training Camp 2012. However, the NFL roster is never really set. General Manager A.J. Smith is always tinkering with it.

Friday afternoon he added a couple of veteran pieces.

Running back Jackie Battle got a one year deal. He's spent the last five years with Kansas City. Last year injuries pressed Battle into starting duty and he responded extremely well, rushing for 597 yards and two touchdowns. The 6'2", 238-pounder is known as a tremendous special teams player. Battle will be in the mix for a backup running back spot.

Defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin also signed on for one year. Franklin is a 6'1", 317-pound nose tackle who's been in the NFL for 10 years. He hasn't missed a game because of injury since 2007. Franklin spent last season with New Orleans after spending four years as a starter in San Francisco.

Head coach Norv Turner has said he thinks will be the most competitive camp of his head coaching tenure in San Diego. These guys will only make it tougher.
