Carlsbad Cop Pleads Guilty to Stealing Heroin from Impound Room

Numerous police employees were listed as witnesses in the case

An 18-year veteran of the Carlsbad Police Department pleaded guilty Thursday to a charge that he stole heroin from his department's impound room.

Michael Koch pleaded guilty to the felony charge of second-degree burglary.

Koch, 44, was arrested January 19 after employees reported seeing him steal drugs from the evidence room.

Numerous police employees were listed as witnesses in the case.

The officer was once a vice and narcotics detective according to our media partners the North County Times.

The paper contacted Carlsbad police to ask about the department’s internal investigation and was told only the process is winding down.

Koch was placed on administrative leave after his arrest according to the NCTimes.

Koch will be formally sentenced June 20.
