Carlsbad Couple Helps Open School in Bangladesh

A couple from Carlsbad recently traveled to Bangladesh to help open a school for women in the country's second largest city.

Amy Wasserman and Todd Burckin, a married couple who teach at Pacific Ridge School in Carlsbad, spent more than a week in Chittagong, Bangladesh, helping to train teachers and administrators. The Asian University for Women will open this fall with its first freshman class.

Both teachers were among the founding faculty of the Carlsbad private school when it opened in 2007. That experience helped them relate to what the teachers in Bangladesh were facing as they worked to develop curriculum and a school culture for the new university, they said.
