Car Slams Into 40-Foot Firetruck

While San Diego firefighters responded to a report of a smoking minivan on the side of the freeway, another car slammed into the firetruck, seriously injuring several teenagers.

It happened just after 11 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 8 near College Avenue.

Several lanes were shut down and a SigAlert was issued at 11:40 p.m. Traffic was also backed up for at least an hour, according to reports.

There were three teenagers in the car, described as a blue Volvo sedan, according to CHP reports. At least one of the passengers had been trapped for an unknown amount of time.

The extent of their injuries are unknown at this time.
