A driver and his vehicle were badly banged up when he flew off the southbound Interstate 15, down a 75-foot embankment and into a drainage ditch Sunday afternoon.
California Highway Patrol officials say for an unknown reason, the man drove off the freeway, barely missed some trees and landed in a ditch between I-15 and I-805 in North Park around 2:41 p.m.
The man was able to climb out of his car by himself, but he was injured.
When CHP officers arrived, they arrested the driver for suspected DUI. Emergency crews took him to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries, and after treatment, he will be released into law enforcement custody.
The man was the only one in the vehicle.
