Hillcrest Clinic Evacuated Due to Car Fire

A fire sparked in the parking garage of a Scripps Mercy Hospital clinic on 5th Avenue, but no one was hurt

A clinic at Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest was temporarily evacuated Friday afternoon after a car fire sparked in the building’s parking garage, officials said.

For unknown reasons, a vehicle caught on fire inside the garage in the 4000 block of 5th Avenue at around 4:20 p.m. Crews with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department (SDFD) rushed to the scene.

Patients and staffers were all safely evacuated for a short time while firefighters put out the blaze. No one was injured.

After the fire was out, patients and staffers were allowed back inside the clinic. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
