Car Falls into 8-Foot Sinkhole

Crews worked to fill in Grantville hole on Zion and Riverdale

A man driving to work in Grantville Friday morning drove into an 8-foot sinkhole, police said.

The sinkhole opened up on Zion Ave. and Riverdale St. in Grantville Thursday night or Friday morning, according to the San Diego Police Department.

The car that drove over the sinkhole became stuck, and water rose up to the car's window. The driver crawled out of the car and called police.

No one was injured, and the car was safely towed out. The driver of the car sent a picture of his car after he drove into the pothole (right).

Construction crews have been laying new pipes in the area, which is likely how the hole appeared.
