Car Falls from Parking Structure at Fashion Valley Mall

A woman was trapped inside the vehicle following the accident

A car occupied by two people in their 70s fell from the third story of a parking structure at Fashion Valley Mall Saturday, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Police said a BMW SUV went off the parking structure near the Neiman Marcus store around 1:30 p.m.

Officer Mike Gottfried of the SDPD’s Traffic Division said a male driver was trying to park the car but might have accidentally pushed the gas pedal. The car went through a plaster wall, landing upside-down on the first level of the structure.

Gottfried said the driver was okay, but his female passenger became trapped inside the car and had to be extricated by rescue workers. She was transported to a local hospital. Her current condition is unknown.

According to police, the flipped BMW landed between two parked cars and caused some damage to those vehicles. However, nobody was inside those cars at the time of the accident.

On Sunday, NBC 7 reached out to Fashion Valley's corporate mall management but a representative said they would not be commenting on the accident at this time.
