Police in El Cajon still searching for driver of hit and run

A man is on the run after he crashed his car into two El Cajon businesses leaving his injured passenger behind.

The crash occurred at about midnight Sunday on the 500 block of East Main St.

Witnesses said the car was traveling speeds of around 100 miles per hour at the time of the crash. The driver hit the Prince Optical Wireless Eye Glass shop and the Bagdad Café, breaking through concrete and wood panels.

Police say the driver started to lose control two stoplights before the collision at the Clyadell St. intersection, periodically running into the center divider. They do not know whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

A female passenger in the car was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital. There is no word on her condition.

The crash is being investigated as a felony hit and run, a San Diego Police Department spokesperson said.
